HOSA is a student organization which stands for Heath Occupational Students of America. The Trent InternationalE School HOSA team’s goal is to promote career opportunities in the health and medical field, while providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development that are needed in today’s fast-paced health care industry. Though we are a small team, we are constantly volunteering, leading, and giving back to the community-so much that it’s almost natural. Whenever people ask me “What are you involved in at school?”, I say “Volleyball and HOSA”. I always seem to get the response “What’s HOSA?” I look at this as a great opportunity to tell them about our amazing student-lead organization, how we contribute to our community, how we are developing great future health-care providers, and about our intelligent, dedicated and enthusiastic members. After all, the more people know about HOSA, the more interested, creative minds we will get. Trent HOSA has been given numerous opportunities to work with diverse groups of individuals and organizations, including Mrs. Helen Curd of the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life has been one of HOSA’s biggest opportunities to expose our team to the community. We spent months fundraising, as well as teaming up with Mrs. Curd to make Relay an overall better experience for Cancer patients, survivors, care-takers, and even volunteers. The HOSA team successfully raised money for the cause by selling cookies, t-shirts, bracelets, and necklaces! By using what we learned from last year’s experiences, we will be taking it a step further this year. HOSA is now preparing to get involved in several more community-service projects including-but not limited to- The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s and The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. We also plan to volunteer at the Houston SPCA, a local hospital, local food banks, as well as Relay for Life once again. This year and in the years to come, we hope to stay active and get involved, grow and expose our team, and improve HOSA overall! 2011-2012 Trent InternationalE HOSA President, Ambreen Khwaja |
